Our Mission
A safe space for Black women to center their experiences as they learn, heal and grow in their leadership capacity
The State of Black Women in Corporate America report indicates that Black women are having the worst experience of all at work (Lean In, McKinsey & Company 2020). This manifests as being underpaid, being underrepresented in leadership roles, and experiencing discrimination, amongst other obstacles.
Despite this, the research indicates that Black women are still motivated to seek higher leadership roles in their organizations. The data clearly supports the need for unique responses to address the unique needs of Black women in the workplace. BLACK WOMAN LEADING® is a timely response to address these issues.
This data, combined with Laura Knights’ years of experience coaching Black women leaders was the inspiration for the mid-career program, which was our first offering. Laura also personally knew this unique isolation well, as she served as the only Black woman on her level of senior leadership in a university setting for 10 years. Although the mid-career program was designed in 2017, it didn’t fully launch until August 2020 as a special initiative of Knights Consulting LLC. In 2022, we partnered with the Bridgify Group, a third-party research firm to confirm that our programming is evidenced-based. In 2023, our programming expanded to cover the Black woman’s full career life cycle with the addition of the early career program and executive roundtables.
Our programming covers the full career life cycle and is tailored by career level to provide just-in-time support that centers the experiences and needs of Black women in the workplace. Additionally, to provide a holistic learning experience, all our programming encompass aspects of our three core pillars– leadership development, mental wellness & self-care, and relationship management.
Through our small group learning experiences, podcast, events, and community connection experiences; BLACK WOMAN LEADING® provides a safe space to help Black women center their experiences as they learn, heal, and grow in their leadership capacity.
